Your Vibration Creates the Social and Emotional Weather Around You

How we show up in the world and how we are vibrating sets the tone for all the interactions that we are having with ourselves and others, and if you are in a leadership role, then you are potentially creating the social and emotional weather for the whole team based on your vibration. Therefore, being aware of our vibration and energy is a vital skill as we pursue vibrational leadership.

It is often easier to consider other people’s vibration than it is to turn the mirror inward and interrogate our own vibrational state. Considering how other people are showing up in the world feels much less threatening than exploring our own vibratory state with brutal honesty. When somebody else is vibing low, it is their problem to fix and we can blame them, but when our own vibrational state is problematic, it means we must do something about it and that we are potentially creating problems for ourselves and others in our interactions. It is also important to keep in mind that our own vibratory state is also clouding our own perceptions of others or that our own vibration could be provoking a response from another person.

In other words, how we show up in the world and how we are vibrating sets the tone for all the interactions that we are having with ourselves and others, and if you are in a leadership role, then you are potentially creating the social and emotional weather for the whole team based on your vibration. Therefore, being aware of our vibration and energy is a vital skill as we pursue vibrational leadership.

Dr. David Hawkins (1995) articulated the energy or vibration of various psychological or emotional states in his book “Power Vs. Force”, which can be a helpful illustration as we consider how we are vibrationally showing up in the world. However, it is not ultimately about exact vibratory numbers, but rather our general feeling and the energy we are holding in our interactions.

Checking in on our current vibration

Humour me for a minute and engage in a moment of stillness and check in with yourself. Close your eyes, plant your feet on the floor, enter a state of stillness, and slow your breathing with intentional in-breaths through your nose, and slow out-breaths through your mouth. Breathe intentionally for a minute or two.

As you fall into stillness, ask yourself these questions.

How is my vibration? Is it high? Is it low? Am I feeling lightness peace, harmony, balance, love, hope, positivity? Or am I feeling heavy, overwhelmed, negative, angry, or any other low vibe feeling?

Where do I feel this energy in my body?

What is informing these feelings? What messages, lessons, values, or beliefs from my past are informing my current response to things? Do these feelings feel familiar based on something that has happened to me before? Is a past event or relationship in my life triggering my current response and vibratory state?

How would your label your current vibratory state? Assign a number to it between 0 and 10, with 0 being super low vibration and 10 being a state of super high vibration and bliss.

How is your current vibratory state affecting how you are showing up in the world as a leader for yourself, or for others? How is it influencing how you are interpreting and interacting with your world? What stories do we need to let go of to shift our current state to a higher vibrational state

Shifting our Vibration: Awareness to Action

I will be the first one to admit that shifting our vibration is not always an easy task. But the more aware we are of our vibrational state, the more possible it is to respond with intention to shift our vibration, rather than react unconsciously and impose our low vibrational state on ourselves and others.

The more personal exploration that we have done, the easier it will be to identify where our past experiences, programming, internalized beliefs, and shadow personas are clouding our interpretation of the world and influencing our overall vibration. Certainly, stories and beliefs that create feeling of guilt, shame, fear, anger etc. will undoubtedly influence our overall vibration in a negative manner. When we are in a place of fear, anger, uncertainly, we are often in a state of fight, flight, and fawn. In this state we are operating from our lizard brain in a reactive and fearful manner, and our actions and interpretations are unlikely to be from a place of wisdom or discernment. In other words, when operating in this range of vibration, we are probably not going to lead ourselves or others very well.

It would be unrealistic to expect us to instantaneously shift from a low vibrational state of fear, shame, and anger to a high vibrational state of love, joy, and enlightened bliss. Therefore, it is often helpful to first appeal to the middle ground focused on acceptance and neutrality first

If we can start by accepting the conditions that we are faced with, and nurture a sense of neutrality about them, we can begin to recognize that all experiences have positive and negative aspects to them, light and shadow, and that what can initially present as negative can be reframed and understood in a positive manner. For example, perhaps we have had a negative experience such as the end of a relationship, or the failure of something we have tried in our life. Initially, we may experience these events as upsetting or even devastating. Our inner critic, who is informed by all the stories, beliefs, and programming that we have internalized, may tell us that we are a failure, or unworthy of the relationship or success. However, when we recognize that life is inherently a cycle of birth, growth, death, and rebirth, then we may be able to accept these endings as necessary events to create the space for new relationships, or to inform our next endeavor that may be successful because of what we have learned from past failures.

It is not always easy to do, but if we can look at things with neutrality and acceptance, it is a starting point to explore different possibilities and it can open the door to embracing hope, peace about the situation or even joy about the possibilities moving forward.

We can set an intention to embrace a different vibrational mindset. We can choose to look at our circumstances through a different vibrational lens. What vibrational intention we choose is up to us, and we have complete sovereignty and control over this process.

Perhaps we choose to look at the positive as well as the negative aspects of each situation and focus on the positive to create forward momentum rather than paralysis and wallowing in negativity.

Perhaps we embrace the vibration of unconditional love for ourselves and others and recognize that we are all just trying to do our best to navigate the challenges associated with life. That we can be compassionate to ourselves, talk kindly to ourselves, and be patient with ourselves about our perceived mistakes or failures. We can acknowledge that when people react poorly or from a lower vibrational place, that is it often a reflection of their own fear, their own hurt and sadness, rather than coming from a place of animosity and malicious intent towards us and others.

Perhaps we can embrace the vibration of joy and choose to see the beauty and wonder in the diversity and infinite possibilities of this amazing world we find ourselves navigating.

We can check in on our current vibration, reframe with acceptance and neutrality, and choose to embrace another higher vibrational perspective.

Please know that I am not suggesting that we embrace delusion or toxic positivity, rather I am suggesting that we operate from a place of balance, harmony, and discerned wisdom with awareness of how our own vibrational state is informing our perspectives.

Believe me - this approach can be literally life changing in all aspects of your experience and interactions.

What vibration are you going to choose?
